With the onset of spring comes a sense of relief – the mornings are lighter, the days and nights warmer, our outfits a little bit more colourful.
It’s also the perfect time to kick your health and fitness regime into gear to get you ready in time for summer.
It may seem like we only just farewelled winter, but the sunniest season is already a mere 12 weeks away.
That not only means squeezing into swimwear, but also indulgent Christmas parties. Think long balmy days spent at the beach, making it even harder to find time for the gym.
So if you’re planning to be body confident this year, now is the time to act.
Not sure where to start?
Well, here are a few ideas to get you going:
Up the exercise
It’s all too easy during winter to get into a routine of slobbing out on the couch when you get home from work while you catch up on the latest episode of Game of Thrones.
But now is the time to kick those habits to the curb.
Take advantage of the warmer weather and longer days to get out and about or down to the gym. Get that blood pumping again.
Try and do something every day even if it’s just a walk.
Nutrition game plan
Sometimes, even if you’re training like a Trojan, your nutrition can hold you back. If you’re struggling to see results, taking a look at what you’re putting into your body can be a good place to start.
As they say, you can’t out-train a bad diet.
But usually a few simple tweaks are all that is needed to start seeing results.
Start by making a food diary and go from there.
Set a shiny new goal
Goal-setting not only gives you a target to work towards, but it makes sure that you get results that will actually make a difference to your life.
Decide what is important to you – is it weight loss, muscle gain or even learning how to do the perfect push-up? Then set a SMART goal – a measurable target to achieve in a specific time period. Then make a plan to get there.
What better time way to get all motivated, inspired and ready for action?
Sign up to an event
Sometimes, training for an event can give you just the focus that you need to get on track.
Fortunately, the Sydney events calendar is bursting with sporting antics.
If action adventure is your thing, try Tough Mudder – an obstacle course that takes place in Melbourne in October and Sydney in November.
Or check this running calendar to find out about the light-footed events taking place around the country.
Sign up and get training!
Now those woolly winter clothes have been banished to the back of the wardrobe, it’s time to start channelling summer.
Shops are filled with the new season’s collections so why not have a browse and treat yourself to something new?
A few new additions to the wardrobe are the perfect motivation to get working on that summer body.
